What’s OCO?

OCO (Organic Certification Organization Co., Ltd.) is established for promotion of organic agriculture through certification of organic foods. We support all people, companies, and organizations applying for the certification.
      OCO is a registered certifying body accredited by the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to certify organic products under JAS organic regulations, while being accredited under IFOAM-accreditation since 1972, ISO/IEC Guide65 since 1996, and recognized as one of the control bodies listed under equivalence agreement between Japan and EU.
      OCO assists overseas growers, processors, and re-packers with how to obtain JAS organic certification and sell their goods in Japan.

As a registered certifying body accredited by Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, OCO provides certification services for organic food operators. Also, OCO conducts ISO certification, ISO training, and evaluation of ISO auditors.

2000 Aug.
Eco limited company is established with 3,000,000 yen in capital.
2001 Nov.
Eco limited company is accredited as a registered certifying body by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to certify organic operators under the JAS organic regulations.
2002 May
Eco limited company changes its name to Organic Certification Organization (OCO), and relocates its head office to Onojo-shi.
2006 Mar.
OCO is certified as a registered certifying organization under the revised JAS law.
2008 Mar.
Organic Certification Organization changes its official name to Organic Certification Organization Co., Ltd. (OCO).
2008 May
As a certification body of ISO, OCO makes a branch office contract with TQCSI (Australia).
2008 Jul.
OCO is accredited as a registered certifying body by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to certify hatchery fish producers under the JAS standard with production information system.
2008 Jan.
As an auditor evaluation organization of ISO, OCO makes a branch office contract with RABQSA (Australia).
2009 Feb.
OCO relocates its head office to the current location.
2009 Mar.
As an auditor training organization of ISO, OCO makes a branch office contract with ITI-QS (South Korea).
2011 Jun.
As one of the control bodies, OCO is listed under equivalence agreement between Japan and EU.
